Project

A museum dedicated to the 150-year history of faience production in Włocławek.

My Role

Lead designer for all graphic elements of the exhibition, including UX designs for multimedia.

My Tasks

Creation of all graphic components for the exhibition. This included graphics, applications, multimedia, printed captions, and infographics. Everything was developed according to the architects' vision and in close collaboration with them.

My Achievements

In collaboration with the design studio, we created an exhibition that showcases the traditional production methods from over 100 years ago while maintaining a modern and elegant style. The exhibition has become a promotional asset for the city of Włocławek in the 21st century.
Additionally, I gained extensive knowledge about faience production, learned about the city of Włocławek and its history, and had the opportunity to collaborate with the Koza Nostra Studio team.

The Faience Treasury tells the story of the 150-year tradition of faience production in Włocławek.
To appropriately design the exhibition elements, we needed to create personas. These helped us understand who would be interacting with our products.

The entire exhibition maintains a consistent design in terms of fonts and color schemes. Below, I present the fonts, colors, and the basic size ratio for two text levels.

Despite the presence of multimedia elements, the main content of the exhibition is presented in static displays.
A corridor presenting important figures from Włocławek
Static elements of the exhibition:
Biographies of key figures,
Historical photographs,
Explanatory texts for specific topics,
Labels for the exhibits.
In areas like this corridor, I had to step into the role of an interior designer. With the layout of windows and doors and the specified wall height in mind, I was able to fill the space with photographs and biographies of key figures.
Of course, the exhibition requires solid static navigation to ensure that visitors do not get lost.
apps
Applications complement the exhibition but are not its main focus.

The screens include:
Current news,
Maps of the entire exhibition,
Additional information,
English translations.
The applications on the monitors are extremely simplified. Their operation can be explained using a simple diagram.
Simplified presentation of how the map application works
multimedia
The challenge was to convey a complex story through simple interactions.
The map above is a good example of how to encourage visitors to interact. Information about specific locations is only revealed after pressing a button. Below is the map design during the testing phase:
For the timeline, the persona I modeled has a height of approximately 170 cm and is from Poland (with English translations placed below the timeline).

A parallel path for children ends with several specially designed rooms.
Conclusions
Overall, the exhibition makes a good impression. The surrounding area, the building both inside and out, and most importantly, the exhibition's theme are all interesting and visually appealing. We succeeded in achieving the intended effect and highlighted the distinctive style of the past era.
The elements I worked on form a significant part of the exhibition, which makes me very happy. Looking at their appearance, I think the result is really good. Of course, as a designer, I’m my own biggest critic, so there are some parts I’d gladly improve if I had the chance. That’s just the perfectionist in me.
However, in trying to look at the Faience Treasury objectively, I must admit it leaves a fantastic impression. Włocławek is all about faience, and the Faience Treasury excellently represents the city and serves as its hallmark. Would I do my work differently today? Probably yes. Would it be better? Also likely. However, I know that this can be said about every completed project.
